About PKCE
This college was established in 2001 under the aegis of the Union Territory of Pondicherry Colleges of Education Society (often abbreviated as UTPCES – a registered society under the Society’s Registration Act, 1860) receiving the grant–in-aid from the Government of Puduchery under the Education Sector to establish and run the Colleges of Education in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Now the college is being run by the society namely Pondicherry Society for Higher Education [PONSHE - Regn. No. 397/2007] on amalgamation of UTPCES & UTPASTS.
This College started functioning in the academic year 2001-2002 for offering the one year B.Ed. degree course with an intake of 60 students on the recognition of NCTE and affiliation from Pondicherry University. The intake capacity was increased from 60 to 100 in the academic year 2004-05. The Pondicherry University has granted permanent affiliation from the academic year 2008-09. The college has now been included in the list of colleges listed under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956.
The College is now functioning in its own building with the required infrastructure facilities such as class rooms, halls, Auditorium, library, laboratories, furniture, apparatuses and equipments, play field, teaching and other supporting staff as per the norms of the NCTE. The college is offering seven optional subjects – Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological Science, Social Studies, Tamil, English with an intake of 15 students in each subject and Commerce with an intake of 10 students.
One Principal, Eight Lecturers (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological Science, Social Studies, Commerce and Psychology) for B.Ed. course, one Head and five lecturers (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science) for D.T.Ed. course are working in this college. Apart from these faculties, one Director of Physical Education, one College Librarian, two instructors, one for ICT and another for Educational Technology and one Assistant Librarian are also working in this college to cater the needs for both B.Ed. and D.T.Ed. courses. The entire teaching faculty has been appointed through direct recruitment as per the norms prescribed by both UGC/Government and NCTE. Administrative staff, numbering six, are on deputation basis and three daily rated Attenders and two Sanitary Assistants are on part time basis. Special teachers for Art, Music and Work Experience are working on hourly basis.

PLACEMENT:

The students of this college have been selected on merit basis for the hourly basis lecturers for teaching higher secondary classes and as School Assistant to teach high school classes in the Government Schools. Apart from this, most of our students are presently working in many English medium private schools.

CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

The students of this college apart from evincing keen interest in their studies have also excelled in the co-curricular activities. Our students are regularly participation in various cultural competitions have got prizes.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

The teachers are the backbone of an educational institution. If there is knowledge gain among the teachers then the quality of the education will get improvement. Hence, the teachers are given the opportunities to attend seminars, workshops, courses etc. at the national/ state level and UGC sponsored programmes.
